Ms. Shilling, or, as I often call her, mom, seems to strike a healthy, venerable balance between compassionate counselor and courtroom buster. She herself is a fine example of a most successful attorney and single mother, one whom raised two children on her own while tending to her law career.



Perhaps her strength and dedication to her dual role as role-model mother and locally renowned educator and practitioner of law is best defined by this story: it's short and simple ... my mother took the bar as an eighth-month pregnant student (who received her fair share of snickers, I'm sure). And she passed. Now, if that isn't dedication, then I don't know what is.



So, I know she's my mother and I'm most assuredly biased but Ms. Shilling truly is the best at what she does. She is ruthless and I've heard her colleagues call her a "shark in the courtroom". Yet, she's tenacious WHILE maintaining her loveliness, maternal smiles and boundless compassion.



She's a shark with a humongous heart.
