Provided by YP.comUnprofessional business practices with an owner who does not care about customers or the legality of his actions. Let me elaborate. Under California law, intentionally defacing someone's personal property falls under vandalism. While it's a misdemeanor in this case, it is still against the law. Furthermore, in some states, it's illegal and punishable by jail time to deface a person's legal, state-issued identification. Rather than refuse service and simply call the authorities to the scene, the owner, Nick Montano, took it upon himself to vandalize my brother's legal identification, to the point that it's no longer legal and valid in Arizona, and that he'll need a replacement.
My brother just wanted to go out and celebrate his birthday with family, and instead, he got this. What's more, he waited for a half hour for his ID to be checked while they held onto it, and after it was returned to him in this condition (photo here: http://imgur.com/VOCqhhY), the rest of the staff just laughed at him. On his birthday.
We contacted authorities and liquor licensing in California. While nothing permits the destruction of an ID presumed to be fake by the business, there are no ramifications for them. Be aware that you *can* file a case in small-claims court if this happens to you, provided you have witnesses.
Customer, beware, especially if you look young and you're visiting from out-of-state. Call the authorities immediately, PRIOR to leaving the restaurant, should this happen to you. This is completely uncalled for, rude, unprofessional, and impermissible by state law. Consider whether you want to give your business to a place like this.
