I was surprised when I got to Sunrise that there was a heavy emphasis on Alcoholics Anonymous. I had been exposed to this program and had actually written it off – not because I didn’t think it was a good program but more because I thought I was too hopeless to use it (almost as though I was too much of a “defective” to benefit from AA).

Five Stars! Edwin [the chef] should get paid more! I want to hire him to cook for me! Seriously though, that food out there is excellent. The chicken (oh my goodness) was good! Also the lectures were very informative. Scott and Jerry did a real good job of laying out the situation and what we needed to do to get out of it. I liked the informal discussion and feedback format. The small groups make it great. We were able to participate, which makes all the difference. Scott is very knowledgeable and did an excellent job with relapse prevention.

I am so blessed and thankful that we were guided to the right resource such as Sunrise Recovery – plus more that may follow for my son’s health and well-being. I had been praying for his understanding that he has a great problem with drinking and could not address it alone. I think now he has come to realize it and is willing to follow through with whatever is going to help him and that he isn’t alone. I’m hoping and praying that the guidance and strength that he received at Sunrise will open the door and give him the willingness to stop drinking for good. I know that you have already touched his heart!

I was a pretty successful lawyer. I had an incredible alcohol problem. I managed to live the life of a very high functioning alcoholic for many years until it came crashing down and I was on the brink of suicide.

When Accepting Help Finally Becomes Less Painful than Living in Denial

Finally, I did it. I got the help of a professional drug treatment counselor. I had kept up appearances of success to the outside world so well that my friends and loved ones actually doubted that I was an alcoholic (wow if they only saw me between 5PM on Friday straight through Monday morning).

It has been a long journey back. I owe my life to AA, but I would have never found it if it were not for Sunrise. I love you guys.

I wanted to write and let you guys know that I'm in San Diego. I'm taking care of my two beautiful kids when I'm not working. They are 11months and 6 years old. My program of recovery is still going strong since I left Sunrise Recovery. I am coming up on 10 months of living clean and sober. I am loving life on day at a time. Keep your head up and always remember. Life is best Sober.

I'd recommend Sunrise Recovery to anyone… For the first time I developed a desire and willingness to get sober and do the things the staff taught me. I got through a point on the 12-Steps that I'd never gotten to before. I'm on Step 9 now. I feel comfortable with me now. I don’t need outside influences to build me up anymore and I'm closer to my higher power. I set up my aftercare plan, worked on relapse triggers and I've read the big book three times.

Having never been in treatment, I was impressed by the way it made me feel good about myself… I learned a lot about friendship and how having sober friends is the key to achieving long term sobriety. I care immensely about the clients and staff I worked with. I will miss them all, but will keep in touch with many.
