Dr. Hagan earned a B.S. in chemistry with honors from Virginias Hampden-Sydney College IN 1976 and earned his medical degree in 1980 at the University of Virginia School of Medicine (UVA). He completed 18 months of training in general surgery at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y., before completing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston with additional training in pediatric orthopedics at the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Greenville, SC. He finished his hand surgery fellowship at the Indiana Center for Surgery and Rehabilitation of the Hand and Upper Extremity in Indianapolis.Dr. Hagan has been in practice in Roanoke since 1987 and is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in orthopedics and hand surgery. He joined Carilion Clinic in 2010, where he employs surgery and other approaches to treat disorders of the hand and wrist. He also serves as assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and clinical assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at UVA.When he is not treating patients or teaching medical students, Dr. Hagan enjoys outdoor activities, woodworking and mechanics. The most gratifying part about his work is helping patients overcome problems with their hand and wrists.There is nothing like seeing a patient improve and knowing you had a role in their improvement.
