The Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention Center works to provide secure custody and care services for juveniles. The center offers supervision and guidance counseling services and assists with promoting personal responsibility, social accountability and emotional growth. It is an 80-plus-bed detention facility that is operated under the authority granted by the Roanoke Valley Detention Commission, which is a public body corporate created and organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention Center offers vocational and social skills development, substance abuse education, mediation, anger management, and medical and mental health evaluation and care services. The center also provides recreational and voluntary religious programs.
