Sara Boucher is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing psychotherapy to adult individuals and families in Carilion Outpatient Psychiatry with a primary focus on adult individuals and groups in the Carilion Office-based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) program. Sara received her MSW from Radford University in 2007 and obtained her LCSW in Virginia in 2013. Prior to moving to outpatient psychiatry in 2018, Sara worked as a clinical social worker on the inpatient psychiatric unit at Carilion for over 10 years, providing services to children and adults and their families. Sara has also worked in the community, completing mental health assessments and providing mental health skill-building services and has experience working in foster care and in domestic violence services in the past. Sara's philosophy as a mental health therapist, includes a focus on building a relationship based on honesty and unconditional positive regard, to allow clients the space to become more self-aware and improve their overall health and well-being. Sara is trained in various evidenced-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive processing therapy, Seeking Safety and Start Now for group therapy. Sara's areas of clinical interest include the treatment of addictions, mood disorders and trauma disorders and with a focus on harm reduction, health and wellness, mindfulness and trauma informed care. Sara Boucher is a native of Botetourt County, but has lived in Roanoke for over 25 years, where she currently resides with her family. Sara enjoys running with friends, spending time in nature and enjoying live music and promotes self-care and a healthy work/life balance as a core component of her practice.
