VA811, also known as Miss Utility of Virginia, is a nonprofit organization that is responsible for the protection of the state's underground utilities. The organization works in collaboration with utility operators, excavators, locators and state regulatory agencies to protect underground utilities for the safety and benefit of the citizens in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It assists underground utility operators and their professional locators to mark the location of underground lines in response to excavation notices. Virginia Utility Protection Service operates the Positive Response System and notifies affected member utility operators of any proposed excavation. It also reports to utility operators in case of unmarked utilities.
