Came in at 3:00 PM for an oil and filter change. Quoted $38.00 +/- a couple of $$. With the car on the hoist, the counter-person accessed his computer data base to announce my car required synthetic oil. Told him the car specifications specified either premium or synthetic oil. The counter-person refused to use premium oil and insisted on synthetic oil. Since it was late and I was going on a road trip the next day, I agreed to the synthetic oil.With completion of the work, I accessed the car's manual and showed the counter-person the manual's oil specifcations... "premium or synthetic" oil. The counter-person stared at me, then presented his invoice... $94.78 for a oil and filter change. On the way out the door, the know-it-all atitude, smart-ass counter-person wished me, "Have a nice night!" Never again another dime!!!

I brought my vehicle in for an inspection and they charged $150 for it. At Tilsons, its $29.99. Then they quoted me prices for repairs and knowing roughly what it should cost, I turned around and left. A very smart decision on my part.

We had a intermittent electrical problem which was hard to trace. I was given prompt attention, then they gave the options of what they could do for me and the associated costs. I choose the computer hook up diagnostic check which did not reveal any error. They went beyond that and at no costs to me, did several other checks to try and help solve my car problem. In the end their experience and thinking the problem through, they got to the root of the problem and fixed it all for the diagnostic check price! I was very impressed they stuck with it and did NOT charge any extra which they could have done. They were honest and I would recommend them for any mechanical work you have.

I have had my rides serviced (brakes, suspension, wheel stud) by Andy Black & co a few times. He is very honest and always gave me options of what I what services I wanted to pay for and the risks associated. I typically bring my vehicles to my uncle's shop when I can, but that is 4 hours away so sometimes that is not an option. I was recommended him when I moved to town ~5 years ago and appreciate his down to earth honesty.

Black's is the ONLY place I take my vehicle for service or repair.Five years ago, and a new resident of Rochester, I needed to find a competent and honest business to work on my vehicle. Black's was recommended to me by a co-worker. My brakes had been squeaking for some time and the oil needed changing. Convinced that I needed new brakes, I asked Andy to check them during the oil change. He came into the waiting area, from the service bay, to tell me the brakes were ok, there were many miles left on them and the noise was pretty normal. I was DELIGHTED to save money..and even more, with his honesty. He made a customer for life. I would, and do, recommend Black's for quality workmanship, fair pricing, and HONESTY.

Brought vehicle in for a coolant leak, found leaking seal and replaced it, in addition was told the engine needed serious repairs totaling more than 2000 dollars. Brought vehicle to another very reputable shop and found a cracked coolant reservoir tank, repair cost 200 dollars, in addition they tested cooling system and found zero problems and the vehicle has been running great. That's quite a difference in price as far as I am concerned as I don't have an extra 1800 dollars sitting around for repairs that are completely unnecessary. My suggestion to the shop would be to make sure the proper diagnosis is made and that they are completely confident in it before suggesting customers to pay for and perform such a serious repair.

Have never had any problems with the quality of service or the price charged. Very up front about what is needed to be done and what cost will be. Service done promptly and guys very easy to deal with.
