Two separate off-site enterprises who built and manage facility have few office hours for those who are employed- no weekends; not past 4:30PM on weekdays. No security: no person is ever on duty on premises. The property is not secured on all sides: anyone can drive in and access storage buildings and unit doors while out of view of street / any homes in the area. No gate. Minimal lighting. Questionable security cameras.

Absentee owner. Inexperienced in storage industry. Public record Freedom of Information Requests reveal owners are electricians / land surveyors by trade at different off site locations. Suggesting in order to get facility approved on a suburban residential street, local political connections may have been used to curry favor for unsightly storage buildings construction in the residential neighborhood. Constructed during the "Reality TV" storage auction programming craze. Customers report owners looking for technicalities and loopholes to terminate storage in order to auction off content for entertainment and to add revenue. Unpaved (stone, dirt, mud) are the roadways within the storage area. "Security" is residential type fencing on 3 of the 4 perimeter sides. Minimal residential style floodlights and consumer grade video cameras reportedly wired off site, and not manned by dedicated security staff. Local teenagers and other delinquents use area as gathering place away from eyes of local police and neighborhood residents. Under age persons reported using alcohol, drugs, playing music, constructing makeshift campfires close to storage buildings on weekends and during school vacation periods until daybreak- within earshot of small children and elderly. Visual examination seems to reveal no existence power or signal for lighting or cameras. Inspection tracing power lines suggests separate power for cameras/ lights as non existent. No power company meters are visible on site. RGE meter reader employee has been inquiring nearby and adjacent residents if they own storage facility, or know the address for the facility, and are confused as to who is responsible for the power being used by the facility. According to RGE employee, power seems to disappear at pole or under ground, begging the question of whether energy for lighting and cameras for facility is legitimate or has been tapped into an unwitting residential customer power source, who could be paying for the storage facility power consumption. Theft of services. A phone call and check with RGE confirmed that the storage facility has no power account in the area or otherwise. It is unknown if storage facility is compensating a resident for energy usage- which is a violation of RGE policy, regardless. The storage facility touts security measures via lighting and cameras in online listings as an added value to their service. One would think a town like Irondequoit would be careful about projects they allow in an otherwise nice community- full of a vulnerable, and aging population. Perhaps the town was trusting of the facility ownership because of the history of business conducted with at least one of the storage complex owners in matters unrelated to this venture, and relied on a reputation that appears to have been taken advantage of. It is highly unlikely any customer who finds this location convenient would be aware that the facility is not secure, appears not to pay for electricity, is unpaved, carries with it a whiff of corruption and cronyism, has taken advantage of elderly neighbors by constructing an unsightly commercial enterprise on a residential street- risking home values, and creating a space for those wishing to be outside view of law enforcement, to engage in activities unseen by local police. People in business who act as upstanding members of local business revealed as opportunistic crooks willing to take advantage of the communities and government that trusted them, just for a few extra dollars.
