The Operations Center of Rochester, N.Y., houses the city s bureau of equipment services and its fleet of more than 1,300 pieces of vehicular equipment. The bureau is segmented into several divisions, including fleet management, a repair department, a parts division and a fueling division. The fleet management division oversees the bureau, administers the commissioning of new vehicles into service and decommissions used vehicles. The repair division accommodates all city vehicles except those of the fire department. The parts division utilizes a computerized inventory system to order and disperse all vehicular parts used in repairs. The department s machine shop rebuilds used parts when necessary. The fueling division maintains a computerized fueling system that monitors fuel usage for all city vehicles. In addition to gasoline and diesel fuel, the city s fleet uses compressed natural gas.
