Okay,
Here's the truth about this place.
Tons of guns. Literally. More than I've seen anywhere short of Cabelas.
Service, well, it's lacking. They ignore customers and carry on their rants about Obama (who I don't like either), other politics, welfare, etc. etc.. Endlessly. Twice I've made purchases and the paperwork took twice as long as it should due to endless prattle. Sometimes I just want to get in and get out, y'know?
They have 50-60 or more used guns that aren't priced. There were a few I was interested in, but there is a crudely written cardboard sign on them that says "Not priced for sale yet. Do not ask". Okay, I won't. I've seen some sit there for weeks.
There was a Sears Ranger model 48 sitting on the rack for at least three weeks. How do I know that? I went in twice a week to see if it was still there. Was saving a few bucks and hoping. I didn't want to lay it away at the listed price of $275.
The gun has some modest issues. Cracked forend (common on inertia semi auto's like the Browning A5), missing spring retainer on the magazine tube, and practically zero finish left. Mostly patina at this point.
I asked the guy at the counter, considering the condition issues, would they give on the price. There was zero hesitation and it was no. Not even a consideration? Then the guy tells me "I just put that out last week."
Please note that I didn't say "How about $150????" I didn't make any offer, I was going to let them have the next move.
I laughed, and said, "No, it's been there at LEAST 3 weeks. I know because I've been checking." He held to his lie, and continued to argue with me about how long it was on the rack. I walked away. That price was okay for a Ranger 48 in very good condition, but this one wasn't in very good condition. Fair at best.
I ended up with buying a VERY nice Remington 870 Wingmaster for $270.00 elsewhere. Yes, a Wingmaster from a shop that was interested in talking with me. I won't put that shop's name here, because I will be accused of stumping for them. It was $270 OUT THE DOOR!!!!!
John Brown's is very busy, and they probably make a lot of money on handguns and AR type sales, and so much so that they don't care about my business. I'm a guy that buys maybe once per year, so I'm not important to them.
They may have a great selection, but don't expect attentiveness or for them to listen to you if you ask for a price break.
I'll bet that Ranger is still there. First wooden rack in the middle of the floor when you go in the door. Be careful, it's missing the spring retaining nut under the forend cap! BOIIINNNNNNGGGG!
