Independence Elementary is a learning center that enrolls students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The school offers a variety of programs, such as reading recovery, speech improvement and gifted education. Its curriculum includes Spanish as a foreign language. The school also provides co-curricular activities, including physical education, gardening, music, dance and art. In addition, it conducts before- and after-school tutorials and offers various enrichment clubs. The school operates a parent-teacher association and school improvement council that funds academic programs and social events. It publishes a monthly newsletter, The Patriot, that carries updates on school activities. Its facility includes a computer laboratory, library and media center. The school is a part of the Rock Hill School District 3, which serves more than 16,000 students through various elementary, middle and high schools. Independence Elementary is located in Rock Hill, S.C.
