Direct Communication/Star West provides the basic infrastructure and telecommunications services to the residents of the predominantly agricultural community of Rockland, Idaho. Star West's backbone network consists of optic fiber and fiber distribution throughout the town via existing and new optical fiber and electronics. FTTP service will be extended to residents, businesses and a community center. The community center will be made available for both scheduled instruction periods and open access, where any resident will have Internet access and email, community bulletin boards, web hosting features and the capability for future services such as state educational resources, distance learning and telemedicine. Direct Communications is one of 17 independent telephone companies in Idaho. Founded in 1974, the business has expanded from 300 subscribers to more than 4,000 in Oregon and Idaho. Also housed in the Direct Communications office is a call center providing technical support for companies in Washington, California, Arizona and Nevada. And there's an Internet business, Direct Internet, a subsidiary of Direct Communications Star West. It provides high-speed Internet to 2,500 subscribers in small towns that larger companies pass over, such as Soda Springs, Pingree, Aberdeen and Montpelier.

Poor customer service

I just got yelled at, cut off in the middle of the sentence and pretty much "told off" when I called complaining about the internet outage in the last 3 days- I called the first day my internet was down: left 2 messages, was called back by IT specialist 2 days later. Whoever answered the call in the IT dept after hours was really rude. The company acts like they are the kings in the area where there is little or no internet competition... I feel hopeless but will contact the Chamber of Commerce and the city who recommends the company for service to inquire how to prevent this from happening in the future..

Look out!

I had so many warnings about this company, but had little choice where I live. Wish I had listened. Never get what you are paying for not even close! The customer service is the biggest joke of all. They cant fix it, and never get back to you. If your thinking of them, think again! Save yourself the head ache. Dial up is more reliable then this.

Find another provider

Watch out and be very careful when dealing with them. Do not sign anything until whatever service they are providing you is working. They came and hooked up Internet and left without it working. After months and hours on the phone with there tech help still no INTERNET. They told me it was a problem on my end, so I replaced everything 3 times still did not work. There tech help told me it was there problem but the local company said it was mine. I finally decided to switch providers used my original equipment (works perfectly). This is when it became ugly, the contract they had me sign in the small print said that if I quit before a year I was responsible for the entire years payment. So for all my headache not being able to make house payments or credit card payments on line, also my children not having INTERNET for school research They made me pay $400 plus. They would also just show up at my house and start working on there equipment without an adult at home, they do say that there
