Johns Hopkins University, founded in 1876, was one of the first research universities in the United States, founded to advance students' knowledge, and also to advance human knowledge through discovery and scholarship. The university has ventured from its home in Baltimore to other locations in the United States and worldwide, including a campus in Rockville, Md.
