MBM is privately owned and operated and has no parent or sister companies. The company maintains more than 30 distribution centers throughout the United States and has been providing food products to restaurants since the late 1940s. J.R. Wordsworth started the company in 1947 as distributor to retail food stores. His sons and daughter bought the business in 1976, phased out the retail business and began a customized food distribution business that focuses on national restaurant chains. MBM Corporation is headquartered in Rocky Mount, N.C.
