The paper is descended from a newspaper that started in 1821.The newspaper is family-owned and has been published by the Kessinger- Barnard and Waters family for five generations. Family involvement began in 1852 when Austus Kessinger arrived from Germany and began working at the newspaper. The paper reports community and local news and is based in Rome, N.Y.
