I called to inquire about becoming a new patient (kids and all). We selected them because they were close and they accepted Tricare. I called asked what insurances they accepted. Tricare was among their list. I asked to make an appointment to meet the doctor. I was told "they don't do that". "She" quickly interrupted me and asked if we had health insurance- I told her we had Tricare. I then asked about the average time frame for making appointments to be seen. Having two young children, I needed to make sure we could get in when needed and not have to wait a week or more. "She" informed me that it would depend. Me: I'm sorry- but depend on what? Then, "she" proceeded to explain they preferred not to accept Tricare and that they only "took in" a few appointments a month from Tricare. I said "Excuse me but are you telling me... if I call to bring in a sick child and your office has already met it's monthly quota of Tricare patients- I WILL HAVE TO WAIT TIL THE NEXT MONTH???" Without hesitating, she said "YES. Do you want to make an appointment?" UN-believable. The front office demeaner and tone was totally unprofessional- NOT TO MENTION THE ASININE approach to Tricare patients & appointments. I did NOT appreciate being talked "down to" and as if we "were less than" for being on Tricare. My husband did not put in 21 1/2 years and retire honorably so his family could be treated as "second class" citizens.
