Walked into the store and received a “hello ladies”. As my mother and I greeted the store owner we stated that we were driving by during our day of antiquing and saw the shop and decided to stop in. The first item that caught our eye we picked it up to further examine. The price tag was located on the bottom. The blue and white ceramic with a metal vase was 97.00. I wasn’t impressed with this particular item but we had just gotten started. As I sat the piece down my mother pointed out another item and before she picked it up the shop keeper stated that we are not to handle the item. I was taken aback by this statement because first of all, I like to examine things for chips/cracks or/and wear and tear before purchase. I also like to look for markings/trademarks of items while considering the price.

The shop keeper went on to say that his items are not to be touch or at least not to be handled. The concept of his store is for someone to walk in and by looking at the collection of his items would be inspired for him to decorate their home. So, when item is picked up and not bought and not replaced just so… it messes with the strategic placement of the piece. Therefore, his concept will not be translated to others that come after us.

I at that point suggested to my mother that we should go. Because, he is making it quite obvious that he doesn’t want us in his establishment. He stated that he didn’t mean to offend me. I explained to him that he gave me the impression that he thought we couldn’t afford to purchase anything within his establishment. I explained to him that my husband is a Major in the U.S. Army and that “If” I wanted; I could afford anything within his building. Before buying granite I ask the price. I don’t want to pay 30.00 a sq.ft. if I can get a slab of marble for 30.00 a sq. ft. As we leave I explain that with his clutter it is hard to get his vision. (There isn’t an American Colonial, Arabian, Arts and Craft or Asian section they are all enter mixed).

At that time he got offended and said that he had been doing this for 50 years and that he had decorated everywhere from Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. I stated…. I was in the Saudi to…fighting a war. Next time lets trade places… I go decorate and you fight.

Spent over 1,000.00 that afternoon but not a dime in that store.
