It's there

There is a clause on the menu that states if you want the chef to cook your steak, there is a $2 charge. It is also stated on their website. They have HUGE open grills that include spices and rubs of all kinds. This place has been here as long as I remember. They used to have individually priced entrees. I dont know why they went to the "one price" thing. I, personally cannot eat $18 worth of anything, so I order from the snack grill. The bands vary. New ones each week.

The idea of the place is that it is a family steak house that turns into a honky tonk after hours. I know that the kids, 16 and under, are supposed to leave by 10:30PM. It is a great way to take the kids out "dancing".

I have a handprint bruise on my arm from a man who works as a security guard at Southern Junction from grabbing me for asking what was going on & why my brother was in a choke hold for no reason... Saturday night a few of us were having a good time with my brother & his girlfriend visiting from Iowa when a group of the security guards came up & ASSUMED WITH NO PROOF that my brother was sneaking drinks to a minor & as we were about to walk outside & figure this all out my brother went to just put his cigarette out & a security guard put him in a choke hold for "resisting" - "resisting" by putting his cigarette out?? After that they dragged all of us out AGGRESSIVELY still for no absolute reason...took my friend to the ground with 3 men on top of him, slammed my boyfriend up against a wall all for telling them how wrong they were for what the did! When they realized they were wrong (hopefully they realize it) they let us go, my friends & family will not be returning to Southern Junction.

Food & service & price

The steaks were very good, but they charge an extra $2 to cook each steak. Why? "Because they can" was what the waitress told me. The steaks are $17.95 each for different sizes of different cuts.

Steaks are cooked as ordered, the baked potatoes are fairly large, and the salad is fresh & crisp.

We had to pay $5 each just to get into the place, but they gave us 2 $5 vouchers toward the steaks, but everything was taxed before they discounted the $5 on each steak which I think may be against the law to do it this way.

Then they added on some other crap which I couldn't understand, but anyway, our bill ended up $42.21 and we had water to drink, but no other kind of beverages. You figure what the cost should've been.

The atmosphere was friendly, the floor easy to dance on, but the band was just "okay." Most of the time we were there--about 2 hours--

the band was playing maybe 30 minutes. The rest of the time, they had the jukebox or something else.

If you are local and want a good steak and don't mind getting screwed by all the add-ons, then you'll probably enjoy this place.

I do not remember seeing the $2 add

on for cooking the steak in the menu. Waitress did not say anything about it either. Pissed us off. Never heard of such a thing.

WE DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE BACK!

We can get as good a steak a lot closer to home. We drove 64 miles just to get there.
