The Sacramento County Department of Adoption Services is a division of the Department of Health and Human Services. The county is a state licensed adoption agency. As a public adoption agency, the children that are available are dependents of the juvenile court. These children have been removed from their biological parents. The adoptions program staff is responsible for assessing if adoption is the best plan for the child. They strive to ensure that a child and adoptive family are well matched, and that the family will help the child develop to his or her fullest potential. It also provides relinquishment services, such as assisting the birth mother with relinquishment of the child, providing counseling and maternity care for the birth mother, evaluation for financial assistance for adoptive parents and referrals to community resources.
