South Middle School serves more than 650 students in grades six through eight. It has a staff of more than 40 professional teaching members and over 30 support associates, including aides, custodians and secretaries. The school s academic curriculum includes various subjects, such as math, science, social studies and language arts. South Middle School also offers extracurricular programs in art, music, and computer and physical education. In addition, the school offers foreign language programs in Spanish. It provides a variety of sports activities, such as football, basketball and softball. The school operates various student organizations, including a student council and peer mediation team. South Middle School conducts programs in bilingual and special education and offers extended day tutoring. The school is a part of Saginaw Public Schools, which operates several elementary, middle and high schools.
