Wife and daughter stayed at this motel. They engaged the chain lock to the door but when they attempted to remove the chain for some reason it jammed and they were totally unable to remove the chain, thus trapping them inside the room. They called the desk to get assistance only to be told by "Andrew" (a false name, I later found out) that there was nothing that he could do and that he would call maintenance in the morning! My wife called both the local police and fire departments but they were unwilling to assist as they stated that it was the hotels responsibility. They then called me. I called the desk and spoke to "Andrew" and explained the situation to him. He was very rude and abusive. He explained to me also that he would call maintenance in the morning. I asked him what they were supposed to do in the event of a fire or tornado and needed to egress the room. He stated to me "That they will probably die then". I could forgive him if he was merely incompetent or reluctant to help but he flatly REFUSED to help (other than contacting maintenance in the morning.) I contacted the local police in St. Joe and they were more courteous but not much more helpful. They did, in the end, agree to send a squad car out to investigate after I pointed out that they would be named in any suit brought as a result of my family's injury. Before the police arrived my wife did manage to get the lock unjammed with the help of a screwdriver that "Andrew" was so gracious enough to bring after I informed him the the police were en-route. I filed a complaint with the corporate office on this matter and am awaiting an outcome. Stay across the street and the Drury Inn. I've stayed at Days Inns in the past and they were generally nice, budget motels. Maybe, as a whole, they still are. Not this one. The only reason "Andrew" is still ambulatory is I was 2 1/2 hours away and he claimed he got off in an hour. Otherwise, he said he was happy to meet me.
