There was a severe water leak in my apartment complex that had been flooding since 12:30am-12pm on January 7, 2014. Several residents tried to contact the Missouri Sewer and Water Company as well as the fire department; however there was little that could be done on their part. Attempts made at contacting maintenance did not help as myself, nor any of the other tenants could get in touch with any personnel using the 'emergency number' provided by management. This water leak not only caused damage to residents' units, but there was water pouring from electric lighting fixtures from the ceiling, posing a serious safety hazard. Not only was I in fear of my property being damaged, I was also in fear of my safety as nothing was being done to stop this leakage. For 12 hours water continued to pour from the ceiling, causing the ceiling outside of my unit to collapse. Ameren UE electric company was alerted of the situation and immediately came out to shut off all resident's electricity. I was without water, without heat (in negative degree weather), and without electricity from 2 am until 9 am on January 7th, 2014. At 9 o'clock am January 7th, 2014, a building inspector along with several local officers and firemen knocked on my door alerting me that I had to evacuate my apartment because my building had been deemed condemned due to safety violation’s causing my apartment unit to become uninhabitable. After several attempts at contacting Baumann Properties, I was without any further knowledge or updates in regards to my housing. I was homeless. I contacted Baumann Properties at 2:30 pm on January 8th, 2014 to see if any provisions were being made in regards to the evicted residents. The receptionist who answered my call was tactless, unhelpful, and dismissive. She rudely informed me that the property manager was on the other line and would contact me immediately following the conclusion of her phone call. No one ever called or responded to my emails. My condemned apartment is no longer livable and Baumann Properties/Hillcrest Apartments has said nothing about reimbursing or compensating me for my trouble, nor have they given any provisions for those who were forced to vacate the premises due to management/maintenance safety negligence and carelessness. On January 8th, 2014 I contacted American Red Cross for shelter or housing options, as I have been homeless since I was forced to evacuate my condemned apartment building on January 7th, 2014. I was told by an American Red Cross representative that it is my property manager's responsibility to provide housing provisions. I was told by the representative that they would not be able to help me due to the water main break in my apartment building and it must be taken up with the property manager. On January 8th, 2014, I contacted Hillcrest Apartments, once again, to see if any provisions were being made as to my housing. I was told that the property manager, Tiffany, said that the apartments were 'being worked on' and until then Hillcrest Apartments would not provide any provisions and would not reimburse me for the expenses I paid for a hotel. I am currently homeless and have paid my rent up to date for an apartment that I cannot access or use due to negligence on management's behalf. Baumann Property Company is not only ethically irresponsible, they are unprofessional and careless when it comes to the safety of their residents.
