At the end of the day if you're not addressing the patient's concerns and you're not listening to them they leave the visit not feeling fulfilled and not feeling heard, and they're not going to trust you. If they don't trust you, they're not going to follow your advice or come to you with problems. There's an old adage that if you listen to the patient, over the course of the visit they'll indirectly tell you what's wrong with them - and it's so true. So especially in primary care, you have to have your listening ears on and be willing to give the patient the time to tell you what's wrong with them.
