Provided by YP.comI can not advise strongly enough against leaving your dog here. I left my toy poodle at The Watering Bowl over Thanksgiving 2014 for five days. I did not receive any calls during this time alerting me to any problems, and when I picked him up the staff told me that he had been a picky eater but overall had a great stay. Unfortunately, by the time I got to my car, his eyes were rolled back, he was shaking uncontrollably and he wouldn't move or respond to his name. When we got home he wouldn't eat (not even special treats), drink, go potty or move. My husband called the Watering Bowl to ask if he had been sick during his stay, and the staff said they didn't have any notes about it and that we shouldn't be concerned. The staff member said she didn't think we needed to go to the vet. Fortunately we disregarded her advice and took him to the animal hospital. When we got there, they immediately took x-rays and said he hadn't defecated in several days. He had gotten so "backed up" that he had been retching and got pneumonia. He had to stay in the hospital for two days for enemas and IVs.
The owner was extremely rude when we spoke to him about this issue. He never called back to check on our dog to see if he was feeling better and he never expressed any regret that our dog had gotten sick.
I feel that someone should have noticed that my dog wasn't going potty and that he was retching. I also feel like they should have called me to let me know he was being a picky eater, as this could have been because of the constipation. I also have a hard time believing that his behavior was normal the last few days of boarding, considering how ill he was when we got him home.
We now do boarding and daycare at Petropolis Pet Center and they have been incredible. The staff is knowledgable and pays close attention to my dog. When I pick him up they have detailed notes about his behavior and health. Petropolis keeps the dogs in much smaller groups with a much better dog-employee ratio so that my dog can have the best individualized attention.
