Instllation of air conditioner

I am very pleased with James Heating, they gave an understandable bid- kept their word - did excellent work, accurately and not disturbing the household - only trimmed the minimum of shrubs to place the air conditioner.

Wonderful experience

A wonderful experience from beginning to end.... we had problems with our furnace on a weekend and I was wondefully suprised to find that James Heating actually provided afterhour and weekend service at no extra charge. The technician was at my house within an hour and pinpointed the problem right away. Yes a part needed to be ordered, but they were at my door promplty the next business day after part was received. I will be calling James Heating again whenever I have problems

Inaccurate diagnosis to get me to purchase new unit/waste of several hours

I would never used for James Heating & AC for service call or any potential repairs again. I first had gas company tech out to take a look as we thought it was pilot light, he said one of the valves on the unit appears to be cracked and it should be about a $300 repair but that I needed to have a HVAC company come service and repair. I called the number on the electronic filter to see who they recommend in salem, they said they only distribute to two places in Salem. I was going to use family business Woodward Heating, but thought would be cheaper to use one of the places that gets parts distributed to. James Heating and AC sent a tech who was there for several hours for two days to diagnose the unit. He was very self assured consistenly told us he has been doing this for over 20 years and knew was he was doing. He felt he was able to tell us the unit maker, who installed, how it was installed, and a ton of information on how much he knew. He first off said the gas company didn't know what they were talking about. He correctly found circuit board was faulty, so when came back with board he was was very puzzled and had to call manufacturer, he had never seen this before and does not prefer this type of unit so that is why she was needing to call them. After talking with manufacturer his diagnosis was that the second heatexchanger was faulty and that the entire unit was no longer usable and needed to be replaced and by law he had to disconnect unit because of carbonmonxide poison getting into our aidt if turned on. He was able to offer me a new unit through them and cheapest route possible was $3400 and they would take off $95 service call if i replaced unit with them. I told them i would need to shop around and look at discount programs though gas company, he immediately discredited that program saying would still be alot more expensive and hes been doing for over 20 years. I was getting finances ready to incur the cost of new unit. I was recommended by finance rep to get second opinion and i went to family business Woordward Heating. They sent a tech out the same day and was there for 15 mins and determined circuit board was needing replaced to diagnose the part that is failing. Next day came back for another 15-20 mins with circuit board and was able to determine one of the valves was damaged, so the 3rd day he came back with both parts replaced, tested unit fuction and was done in another 15-20 mins. He was able to provide alot more honest and accurate info, did not complain about the type of unit we had, he explained more info on the type of unit we had which the first tech completely made up information on, he also added that if you know what you are doing this would not be a time consuming problem as it happends alot and an experienced tech should really know this information. Also that my unit was only 7 years old and to say that an entire new unit is needed is not diagnosing the problem as accurately as possible. I called James Heating office and they tried to convice me Woodward was trying to under cut them as they are competition and even tried to convince me to be very wary that the heat exchanger is still faulty and I was taking in carbon monoxide. I have working carbon monoxide detectors, and have had no issues since unit was repaird by woodward. I was able to get service, repair, labor, 2 parts, and properly functioning furnace for $457 from Woodward, compared to $95 and $400 just for the circuit board and service call, then eventually $3400 for estimate on entire new unit conveinently needed through james heating.
