Sports injuries incurred in college gave Dr. Bert Tardieu an up close and personal view of the specialty of orthopedic surgery. Inspired by that experience, he takes a collaborative, patient-centered approach focusing on restoring joints to their optimal performance. After gaining a bachelors of science from the University of Houston, Texas, he earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1989. He completed his residency at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. Dr. Tardieu is board certified by and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is the medical director of Salinas Valley Memorial’s Joint Replacement Program and served as chief of surgery from 2009 to 2011. Dr. Tardieu and his wife have two children and he likes to say that he competes vicariously through their sports activities. For the past several years he has volunteered as a field physician for two local high schools as well as the California Rodeo Salinas.
