Provided by YP.comJust as any Christian who tries to maintain unwavering faith, I often peruse book stores for Christian literature (oh how I love The Shack) and any other companions that may accompany the genre. As I am striving to ensure that, me and my house will serve the Lord, I too search for compact discs for children and any other knick knack that will toggle my two-year-old attention. So, while in Salisbury, North Carolina, and with a little “extra” this payday, I delighted myself to a treat by visiting Bible Book Store on Main Street.
I was charmed by their scripture bracelets and mints, and I marveled over their Cedarmont Collection of children’s movies - both VHS and DVD, and the compact disks. And like any experienced shopper, I did not exit the store before surveying the Clearance items. With over $60 of merchandise in my arms, hands, and elbows, I remembered, “I need to get the movie, The Gospel.”
There, in the area designated for movies, were an array of films, labeled in three categories; Educational , Gospel, and Family. Present and ready to be purchased were the films in the category of Educational and Family; nevertheless, Gospel films were not present. Instead, there were hand written labels with the title and price of the DVD glued to colorful pieces of construction paper.
Initially baffled at my discovery, I stood there for seconds in awe. Next, I went to a store clerk and inquired of the whereabouts of the film The Gospel. She simply stated, “I will have to go to the back and get it.”
On that day, I saved myself $70+ as I did not purchase any items from the Bible Book Store. I simply smiled, put my items back in their respective places, and bid the store clerk a blessed afternoon.
We're sorry that EllaRay2 was offended because certain merchandise was taken off the shelf. It is by no means our desire to offend or to manifest "Segregation at its finest". We were simply responding to an epidemic of shoplifting of specific product lines in the store. When a grocery store keeps analgesics or a pharmacy keeps razor blades off the shelf and behind the checkout, it's not segregation against people in pain or those who shave, it's merely an attempt to lessen the loss from those who steal. We would encourage EllaRay2 to come back and to pray for the real offenders, those who would rob a Christian bookstore of inspirational merchandise. We are open to her suggestions on how to make our fine products more available while trying to preserve our financial integrity. We believe in the old song that says, "Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight." We don't want to segregate by any criteria, except to segregate His business and its merchandise from those who steal. Thanks and God bless.
