I excel at researching companies. I wanted to use Smart Move SLC for a local move who claims to be licensed under US DOT# 1784095. However, after searching the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (see https://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Carrier/1784095/Overview.aspx), I learned that this license has "no current operating authority" it is also for a different company and owners whose license expired in Utah in 2011 (see https://secure.utah.gov/bes/details.html?entity=7040105-0151).

Provided by YP.comI've called SmartMove for residential moving on numerous occasions over the last several years. The company has been in business for long time and is family-owned and therefore provides friendly service at reasonable rates without the corporate nonsense and overpricing. The owner is very experienced and pleasant to deal with. They do carry insurance just in case if something is damaged during the move, even though that never happened to me. Will definitely call them again in December when I have to move again.

Provided by YP.comI'm really paranoid about getting the most for my money. For that reason I spent days researching movers before settling on one. At first glance they all looked good, but as I started calling around it was pretty clear that they're not. Many of the receptionists or proprietors were rude or I'd get transferred to a person who wouldn't pick up and I'd have to call back. Some expected me to pay rates that were downright exorbitant. Okay, I understand that you're a big company and have to charge high prices but almost $100/hour for two guys?!?! Is your overhead really that high? Anyway a football buddy of mine told me about Smart Move over the weekend and I decided to give them a call. They were professional over the phone but would not give me an all inclusive quote, but just an hourly rate (though much lower than the other guys). When I asked why not I was told that I'd need to have an estimator come and take a look at my stuff before I could get a ballpark range. The estimator was free so I went for it and ultimately scheduled my move with this company. They did the job faster than expected and didn't try to nickel and dime me as I have read about online. Thanks for treating me like a human being. I'll pass your name down the grapevine.

Provided by YP.comSo I decided to use a different moving company this time around because I was tired of movers slacking on the job and trying to stretch out the job time and went with Smart Move in Salt Lake. They were very courteous on the phone and went out of their way at my home to accommodate my situation (I had a lot of things to disassemble/reassemble plus two kids to work around). Also, they were fast, which is all I really wanted in the first place. Everything else is icing on the cake, as they say.
