I recently took in an old (1950's) camera for shutter repair and cleaning. The turnaround was remarkably fast, and the owner John took time to explain how he would do the work. It was obvious he took great pride in what he did. The service was friendly as well. I was contacted by phone as soon as the work was done, which took far, far less time than I expected.

Wow, what can I say. I've never had such atrocious service in my life. I brought two Ipods in to Forsters to have fixed. This was in January of 2011. I was told that they both needed either a replacement battery or logic board. We settled on changing the batteries first as they had the items in stock and didn't need to order any parts. I waited months to hear about my ipods. I stopped in on occasion to find out what was going on. After over a year, finally, on a stop in, one of the ipods is ready! I grab it and take it home only to find out that it is not fixed. At no time during my visits did anyone tell me that the other ipod was fixed or ready. I immediately took the ipod back and notified them that it was not fixed. after a few more stops in to check on my items, I was recently notified that they couldn't find them. I was told by the very friendly girl at the counter that she would look and give me a call later that day. about two weeks later I get a call from the owner, John Forster. He basically told me that because it was after 90 days from when the ipods were done, (remember that nobody told me the other one was done at any time and I was never notified that the original one was done), there was nothing that he could do. He had disposed of them. There was no follow up before any item was disposed of. As someone who owns a business myself, I will ALWAYS attempt to make things right, especially when we have been in the wrong. Please I implore you, if you have any item that needs to be fixed, be it an ipod or camera, avoid this shop. They have no sense when it comes to customer service or customer appreciation.

These guys fixed an old, but trusted camera for me while I was on vacation around the holidays, and really saved the day. I like my old camera, I don't need Photoshop to get the clear colorful pictures the way I like them and I don't plan on giving it up anytime soon. I couldn't find anyone else that could help me with that camera. I recommend them to family and friends in the area with any kind of camera problem.

Poor service, shoddy work, and do not stand behind their work

Took a lens in to have them remove a little floater inside the lens. Lens worked perfectly well before going in, just had a piece of something floating around inside. They removed it but after the initial functional test, I stashed the lens in the bag. Then a few months later I took it out to use and it work for an hour or two and then developed a rattle. Sounded like a loose screw inside, and then the lens no longer would zoom in or out. Stuck. Took it back to them and they wanted $120 to fix it and would not give me any break on the cost, even though I am sure they caused the problem when they repaired it. I gave them ample opportunity to make good on the repair, split the cost, anything and they refused. Therefore, I refuse to do any business with them ever again and recommend you do not either.My brother took a lens in for repair and had to return it as well, however they did repair it under their 90 day warranty. He was lucky...I was not.Stay away....send you lens to the manufacturer and get it repaired right by someone that backs their work.

I should have read the reviews before I sent my Nikon d-90

I had problems with my Nikon d-90 so I went to Nikons site and there was Fosters Camera repair.As I live in Nampa Idaho it's close and after it was recommended by Nikon. I had to go to Californiaand on to Oregon for a photographers meet. I sent a very detailed letter with the camera and had hope to use the 90.No such luck we got back on the 18 and I called on the 19..The said it was ok and I said fineship it. I came today great I can take it to Montana in the am. Well no I can't It's still up S*** creek. The camera still won't light up the rear screen on preview, live view or the Data screen. So time and money wasted and the Camera still not happy, happy. So I'm done with Fosters and it's not so bad as I'm not alone in my feelings about fosters. Use at your own risk...

Unhappy photographer

This place was recommended by a fellow photographer. I took my Nikon there at the beginning of the summer. When they called to give me the estimate, they said it would be three weeks. When the three weeks passed, I had to call them to find out status. They didn't answer and I got a phone call back about a day later. They then told me what they thought it was didn't fix the problem and they had to order other parts. It would be another week. Another week goes by, then two. I had to call again. The parts were on back order. It is now seven weeks later and I still have no camera. I had to rent a camera twice, I've turned down several jobs, and their labor charges are ridiculous. I would not recommend bringing your equipment here. The customer service and repair time leaves something to be desired.

****Recommend only taking Nikon to this shop****

I have taken several Nikon items to this shop, and never had an issue. I took a Tamron lens to have the mounting repaired (8/3), and they had my lens for over a month, and had not even ordered the part, or updated my repair cost estimate. I called the 1st time, after 3 weeks, and they said it would be done in a week. The 2nd time, they said they needed to order the part. The 3rd time, they told me they had to "fax" the order, and would do it after labor day. I was photographing a wedding (on 9/12), and I needed the focal length of the lens I was having repaired, so I had to go out and order a new lens for the wedding. I asked them not to repair my lens, and when I went to pick it up, they charged me a "Reassembly-Time & Effort" fee. I honestly felt like sending them a bill for the time I spent calling for an update on my lens, and for the expedited shipping I paid for to get my lens here in time for the wedding. I would take my Nikon equipment there in a heartbeat, but nothing else.
