Since 2012, there have been some HUGE changes in customer service at St Marks. They must have read their reviews and hired a specialist to solve the problems. Today staff members are focused specifically on customer/patient care and attention. A standing up, smiling, pleasant person now greets you at the front door to ask how they might help direct you to where you are going. When you reach the given service area (in my case imaging) another person comes out and SITS down beside you, explains the procedure, how long your wait my be, and asks you if you have any concerns or comments. I have been going to St Marks since they opened and I can verify that their customer service is ENORMOUSLY BETTER than it used to be. I prefer the personalized service of St Marks over IHC's sterile, clinical approach. AND a note to previous reviewer "dehumanized patient"--ALL hospitals are now businesses. That's the 21st century unfortunately....

I was very disappointed with the service and attitude on exhibit at St. Mark's Hospital. Requested care was not given, discharge was delayed four hours and then I was chastised for still being there, and generally, other than the nursing staff, incompetence seems rampant. I'm glad I generally go somewhere else. I won't be returning to St. Marks willingly.

I was utterly marginalized and dehumanized when I had surgery at St. Marks. I made several explicit requests of the doctors and nurses involved, was assured those requests were legitimate and would be honored, and then everyone of them was ignored. The bottom line is that they will heavily sedate you as soon as they can so that they can do whatever they want to you without you complaining. Please know that St. Marks is in the business of making money. Their culture is all about efficiency and arrogance. Patient care--the treatment of individuals as human beings deserving of respect, dignity and honesty is not institutionalize. While there may be individuals who are motivated by genuine compassion, I certainly did not receive care from them during my stay.I can't imagine that I would ever trust that hospital again. If you're considering going to St. Marks, or if you have to because of your doctor or insurance, I recommend you write out all your requests, have all doctors and nurses sign the document and insist that a copy of the document be place on the top of your chart. Do not trust that anyone there will listen to you, let alone communicate your wishes to others.
