This center released my child to a person who had no authorization to pick him up from school. They called me to ask permission if the person could pick him up because their name was not on the list of safe people, nor had any association or prior meetings with the school. After saying "NO" and that I had no idea why that specific person would even be there, they said "ok", hung up with me, and then released my child, who then went missing for 24 hours, followed by police dealings, and a very confused, emotionally upset child by the time it all ended. This was very traumatic for my child, and my family, and yet the staff treated it like it was no big deal. Their excuse was that the person "had a good story", when picking up my child.

We are taking our child out of this program because we feel that University Kids near the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, is not providing key curriculum and instruction in academic areas of mathematics and literacy unless parents pay an extra fee (~$150 per month each for reading and math) for small group instruction. U Kids states that it has a play based curriculum and seems to use this as an excuse to not provide a focus for some part of the day on academics. We spoke to both the teacher and director of the program about our concerns regarding a lack of focused time with instruction matched to our child’s needs (based on their assessments). While initially there seemed to be some commitment from the teacher to make some changes, we were later told that if we want this type of small group instruction, we need to pay for it. We even spoke to the director's supervisor at their corporate offices who seemed sympathetic to our concerns, but nothing different has happened. We
