Avance - San Antonio provides support and education services to low-income families. Avanche teaches parenting skills, helps parents to become partners in their children s education, improves educational opportunities for parents and children, helps children to reach their potential as learners, provides literacy training for parents and teaches families to use the resources of the community. Its early head start program includes homebased option services, centerbased option services, early childhood education activities, developmental and health assessments, health and nutrition services, prenatal support, family mental wellness, social service assistance, services for infants and toddlers with special needs, individualized programming, parent involvement activities, leadership opportunities, toymaking, GED and ESL programs and computer literacy. It also provides a school readiness program to provide information regarding kindergarten readiness guidelines to community residents, parents, caregivers, teachers and early childhood educators. Its Harlandale program is for adults and their children up to seven years of age.
