Charles Roeth, MD, FACC is Board Certified in Cardiology and practices with South Texas Cardiovascular Consultants in San Antonio. Dr. Roeth decided to become a physician when he was 11 years old. Later, there were two major influences in his decision to pursue a specialty in cardiology. The first was his mentor, Dr. Rolf Gunnar, at Cook County Medical Center in Chicago whom Dr. Roeth calls a "master clinician." "He just had a way... and my goal was to be able to listen to a heart as well as he did," Dr. Roeth says. The second was when he was a first-year resident, Dr. Rene Favaloro performed the first cardiac bypass at the Cleveland Clinic in 1967, and it revolutionized the field of cardiology. He received his medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He did his residency at Cook County Hospital at University of Illinois in Chicago and served as chief resident at University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals in Miami, Florida. Dr. Roeth spent two years in military service at Randolph Air Force Base and Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand before completing his cardiology fellowship at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Roeth sees patients in the practice's San Antonio office and also at Methodist Hospital | Texsan.
