Provided by YP.comThis church does not have a "bell tower"; instead, they have large speakers mounted high up, so that they can play a variety of things over them, not just calls to church. They have decided to "make a joyous noise" and play any number of tunes through these speakers, which I am sure they feel is "inspirational". They begin early in the morning, every morning, and play intermittently all day long. The tunes are mostly rendered as if they were being played on a set of bells or pipes, but it is a recording. They play show tunes, marching tunes, old tunes from World War II and a variety of other things, including "Big Ben" chimes, (although they don't always play these chimes on the hour or half or quarter hour) and they play them loudly enough that you can hear them from a block away. Very few of these tunes are songs that are related to God or religion or church matters. This is just noise pollution, and it is annoying to those of us who live nearby and would like to sleep in late on a Saturday morning after having worked all week. If the music had anything to do with calling their congregation to worship or if it were pertinent to their celebration of their religion, well, then, I could see that it might be appropriate to blast us out of our beds on a Saturday morning at 7:00 AM with "Anchors Away" or a medley of military fight songs--but, that's not the case here--and many of their constituents don't live close enough to hear it, anyway--
I just think that this is rude, and shows no consideration for any of the rest of the people who happen to have the misfortune of living nearby--and I wish that they would discontinue the practice. Please, don't "bell" me anymore, unless you are calling people to your service for prayer--like on Sundays, mostly--
