"Pavel Valdes, M.D., is board-certified in internal medicine. He also holds Basic Life Support, BLS, Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification, and Texas Tech University Certification of his internal medicine training. Dr. Valdes completed a residency in clinical neurophysiology at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Havana, Cuba, 1990 to 1995. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of Pinar del Rio and the University of Havana, Cuba, 1984 to 1990. His academic honors include first place in the Knowledge Meeting of Anatomy at the Medical University of Pinar del Rio, Cuba, 1984; first honors in internal medicine, Medical University of Pinar del Rio, Cuba 1987; first honors in physiology II, the National Meeting of Medical Sciences, Santa Clara, Cuba, 1986; and first honors in physiology I, Medical University of Pinar del Rio, Cuba, 1985. He received an honorable mention for his internal medicine in-training exam and first honors in PGY1 at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas, 2008. Dr. Valdes has performed research, including a follow-up study at the Neurosciences National Center in Havana, Cuba, of the Visual Pattern Evoked Potential in a group of patients suffering from optic epidemic neuropathy, 1993 to 1995. He is currently a member of the American Medical Association, AMA. He is a past member of the Neuroscience Society of Cuba and the Cuban Chapter of the International League Against Epilepsy, ILAE, 1989 to 1998.
