Provided by YP.comWe admitted my mother to The Heights at Huebner in September 2013. After five days of hospice respite care, they demanded my mother be moved on that very same day. This came as a shock to us as we had an understanding that our mother would be staying there indefinitely. They told our hospice that my mother was too difficult. At this time, my mother was gravely ill suffering from end stage agitation. Anyway, our hospice scrambled to locate another nearby facility. Personally, I feel that subjecting my mother to a second move in five days proved too much for her.
The worst part of this ordeal was how we were treated by the staff. When I arrived that afternoon to gather my mother's belongings for this forced move, I found my mother was hungry. Some of her clothes could not be located. None of the nurses nor anyone from administration talked to me to tell me why they were kicking my mother out. The nurses would not even tell the ambulance EMTs enough information about my mother's condition which they needed in order to transport her. The lady EMT seemed baffled by this. I had to give them as much info as I knew. The staff at the Heights even made me feel uncomfortable as we left with the EMTs. No one talked to us. No one would even make eye contact as we went past the central nurses' station. It was as if we did not exist! It was horrible. This facility is supposed to be in the business of caring for patients with conditions like dementia and end of life issues. In my opinion, it was reprehensible that they "kicked" my gravely ill mother out of their facility. My mother lived only 36 hours after this forced move.
When looking for a facility to place your loved one, don't be fooled by the cosmetic look of the place as we were fooled.
