Anne Cowell, MD, MPH, is a board-certified infectious disease specialist who sees patients in both the hospital and outpatient setting for a range of infectious diseases, including bloodstream and intravascular device infections, intra-abdominal and urinary tract infections, tuberculosis, prosthetic joint infections, and other postoperative infections. Her practice also includes treating Clostridium difficile colitis (bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps), tuberculosis, and travel medicine. She has an interest in hospital infection control and improving antibiotic use (antibiotic stewardship) as well.Dr. Cowells research interests include whole-genome sequencing of microbial pathogens, understanding the molecular basis of antimicrobial resistance, and malaria pathogenesis and epidemiology. She was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2013 for her national and international work helping the underserved and at-risk.Dr. Cowell completed fellowship training in infectious diseases at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She completed residency training at Yale School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. She also holds a masters degree in public health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
