Bernice Ruo, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine doctor. She provides primary care for adults, including preventive care and diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. She has expertise in caring for individuals with chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.As a primary care physician at an academic health system, Dr. Ruo instructs medical students, residents and fellows. Her research interests include medical education, quality of life, and depression. She has published many articles and serves as a peer-reviewer for journals such as Circulation, Journal of the American Medical Association and Annals of Internal Medicine. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Ruo was an internal medicine physician at Northwestern Medicine and an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Harvard Medical Schools Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Ruo earned her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and holds a masters degree in clinical research from UC San Francisco. She is board-certified in internal medicine, is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine, and a fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
