Courtney Thompson is a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-BC) who cares for individuals with HIV/AIDS. She is part of the care team that helps people transition smoothly from the hospitalized setting to outpatient care when they have been cleared for discharge. As part of the Owen Clinics efforts to promote linkage to primary care, Courtney has helped to develop an outpatient hospital follow-up clinic for those HIV/AIDS. During this clinic, individuals are clinically assessed, educated on their current medical management plan, and linked to their new primary care providers. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Courtney worked as a registered nurse in numerous areas, including the telemetry unit, the cardiovascular intensive care unit (ICU), bone marrow transplant intermediate care unit (IMU), and gastroenterology special procedures.She earned a doctorate in nursing practice from University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science and a bachelors degree in nursing from The College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. She is a certified HIV Specialist (AAHIVS) from the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Outside of work, Courtney enjoys reading, hiking, and volunteering for the San Diego Humane Society.
