David L. Wyles, MD, is an infectious disease specialist and hepatitis C (HCV) infection and treatment expert. Infectious disease specialists care for patients with infections or diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. These include hepatitis viruses, tuberculosis, influenza, and HIV/AIDS, in addition to other infections of the sinuses, heart, brain, lungs, gastrointestinal system, urinary tract, pelvic organs and bones.Dr. Wyles clinical work includes caring for people co-infected with HIV and hepatitis C virus. He is involved in several trials using novel therapies for the treatment of chronic HCV.His research interests include laboratory evaluation of new antiviral therapies for HCV, drug resistance to HCV antivirals, and HCV viral fitness. By studying viral fitness, an organisms ability to adapt and reproduce in a defined environment, researchers aim to improve the development of antiviral drugs.
