Fatta Nahab, MD, is a board-certified neurologist and director of the neuroimaging program at UC San Diego Healths Movement Disorder Center. Dr. Nahab specializes in neurological movement disorders and their causes, and diagnoses and treats people with essential tremor, Parkinsons disease and atypical parkinsonism, ataxia, and dystonia. He also provides treatment for people with symptoms such as myoclonus, walking problems and imbalance. Dr. Nahab has received several national awards for providing leading neurological care. He has led numerous clinical trials, including the use of octanol and octanoic acid to treat essential tremor. His research aims to understand how tremor and neurodegenerative disorders impact brain function. Dr. Nahab has a particular interest in using functional resource imaging (fMRI) to track the progression of Parkinson disease and gait dysfunction, and using functional neuroimaging techniques to explore the causes of neurological movement disorders, psychiatric disorders, and normal aging. Dr. Nahab is the author of numerous book chapters, scientific abstracts, and peer-reviewed articles in national and international publications. Most recently, he served as lead editor of the textbook Neuroimaging of Movement Disorders, which combines the contributions of internationally recognized experts in the field of neuroimaging.Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Nahab was an associate professor in the Departments of Neurology and Neurosciences at the University of Miami. While there, he established the Functional Imaging of Neurodegenerative Disorders Lab.Dr. Nahab completed his fellowship at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his neurology residency and earned his medical degree at Loma Linda University.
