When we finally got a Dr.'s re...

When we finally got a Dr.'s referral for physical therapy for my mother-in-law, I was afraid it was too late. She was lethargic, uninterested in life, and had fallen several times. Not only did she get a physical therapist, but she also got a nurse who checked on her weekly and other services. Within two weeks of the physical therapy, it was as if my mother-in-law had gone back in time 10 years.

For month's, years even, Mom wouldn't leave the house. She had no interest in her great grandchild and was angry at anyone who asked her to do anything, including joining us for dinner. I really thought it was the beginning of the end and tried to prepare my husband for his mother's passing.

After a few months of therapy, Mom is going to parties and going out to eat. This holiday, she was back to being the life of the party when we took her to her niece's house.

The PT taught the caregivers how to show Mom the exercises and gave them a pamphlet with pictures and a schedule to check off which exercises she did. Not only has my mother-in-law's life been extended, but, more importantly, her quality of life is something that makes her want to get up in the morning and enjoy this season of her life.

I thank People First for giving us back a woman who is the family matriarch and a woman who loves life. The care they give is priceless.
