Marco Crane & Rigging Co
10056 Black Mountain Rd, San Diego, CA 92126
Marco Crane started in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1956 by Dan Mardian Sr, and his two brothers Aram and Sam. They were all owners of Mardian Construction from which Marco Crane emerged. Marco Crane was created for renting and tracking Mardian Construction’s equipment. At its inception, Marco Crane had two employees in addition to the owners. The company operated only one crane, a Lorain Crane that was capable of lifting twenty tons. Marco Crane’s initial success can be attributed to Dan Mardian Jr’s vision, Mardian Construction’s assets, as well as a job opportunity at the Painted Rock Dam in Gila Bend, Arizona. The job at the Painted Rock Dam was a marquee project for Marco Crane because it required the biggest crane in the state. In 1957, through a joint venture with Ashton Co., Mardian Construction purchased the crane necessary for the job. The crane was inactive during summertime; therefore, Marco Crane was able to use Mardian Construction’s equipment for three months during the summer. During this time, Marco Crane was able to rent out the crane and saw a huge demand. When the job was finished in Gila Bend, Marco purchased the crane from the joint venture of Mardian Construction and Ashton Co.
