Ottar V. Lunde, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine doctor. He provides primary care for adults, including preventive care as well as the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. Dr. Lunde has a special interest in heart failure, sleep medicine and weight loss counseling. He is certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.As an associate professor of medicine, Dr. Lunde is involved in training medical students and residents at UC San Diego School of Medicine.Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2007, Dr. Lunde completed his residency training in internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco, which covered a broad range of medical disciplines including cardiology. He earned his medical degree at the University of Oslo in Norway and his undergraduate degree in pre-clinical studies at the University of Bergen in Norway. He also received a credential in history and philosophy from the University of Oslo. Dr. Lunde served as a naval doctor and lieutenant in the Norwegian navy to meet requirements for military service. From 1993 to 2001 Dr. Lunde practiced as a medical doctor in Europe. While living in Barcelona, Spain, he learned to speak Spanish and completed a year of advanced training in cardiology. Before completing his residency training in the US, Dr. Lunde also participated in heart failure research at UC San Diego, where his love for San Diego was born.When not working at his profession, Dr. Lunde enjoys jogging, swimming, tennis, reading books and spending time with his wife and two children.
