Paul Girard, MD, graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1992 and then moved on to medical school at the Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago Illinois. He graduated in 1996 and began his Internship in General Surgery at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He was acknowledged as the General Surgery Intern of the Year from 1996 to 1997.{line break}After spending three years in Orthopedic Surgery Residency in Phoenix, he transferred to Naval Medical Center San Diego in San Diego, California to complete his training. He completed his Orthopedic Residency training in 2002 and was chosen to stay at Naval Medical Center San Diego as faculty on the Orthopedic Trauma service.{line break}From 2002 to 2007, Dr. Girard served the assistant director of the Orthopedic Trauma Service. He was twice awarded the Academic Teaching Award in 2005 and 2007. He deployed in support of the global war on terrorism aboard the USS Boxer and USNS Comfort in 2003. Dr. Girard also took opportunities on his own free time to serve the population of Manta, and Latacunga Ecuador on separate occasions during medical missions sponsored by International Medical Alliance.{line break}In 2007, Dr. Girard separated from the Navy and joined UC San Diego Health. The first year of his time at UC San Diego served as an Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship, and he has remained full time faculty since that time. He is the department Quality Assurance Officer and sits on the Health System's peer review committee, and also is a member of his department's Residency Review Committee.{line break}When away from the hospital, Dr. Girard enjoys being with his family, as well as boating and fishing.
