Rachel Shapiro, MS, is a certified physician assistant (PA-C) who specializes in caring for urology patients. She helps treat a wide range of urological conditions, including benign prostate enlargement, lower urinary tract symptoms, kidney stones, benign scrotal conditions, urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism, and incontinence. Shapiro also works with patients with congenital urologic malformations who are transitioning from pediatric to adult care. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Shapiro was a physician assistant at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. While there, she performed a wide range of outpatient urology services and assisted in the operating room with endourological procedures, using minimally invasive techniques to diagnose or treat kidney stones, as well as other conditions of the urinary tract.Shapiro earned a masters degree from Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences, attending the Master of Science in Health Sciences for Physician Assistants program. She obtained double bachelors degrees in music from Barnard College, and in Jewish law from the Jewish Theological Seminary. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the California Academy of Physician Assistants.Outside of work, Shapiro enjoys international travel and spending time with her husband and son.
