Established in 1889, the San Diego Police Department offers a range of community policing and crime prevention programs and activities. The department operates auto theft, gangs, parking enforcement, forensic science, traffic, and sex and financial crimes units. Its domestic violence unit works in association with community partners, such as the Center for Community Solutions, Rady Children's Hospital-Chadwick Center, San Diego Volunteer Lawyers, San Diego City Attorney's Office, San Diego District Attorney's Office and City Victim-Witness program. The San Diego Police Department offers prevention tips, as well as conducts speech sessions for community groups and organizations. The department is a part of the City of San Diego, which also operates water, risk management, parking, and parks and recreation departments.
