Tricia Santos Cavaiola, MD, is a board-certified endocrinologist. She specializes in treating patients with many types of endocrine disorders, including diabetes and thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pituitary diseases. Dr. Santos Cavaiola has a special interest in both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and in helping patients learn how to take a more active role in managing the disease through lifestyle changes and medication choices. She has often been a featured speaker in classes or videos, both to educate patients with diabetes and to help primary care physicians learn more about diabetes diagnosis and management. Her research focus is also in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.As an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Santos Cavaiola teaches courses in endocrinology and teaches residents and fellows in the clinical setting. She is also active in the diabetes community, as a member of the American Diabetes Association and as a faculty member for Taking Control of Your Diabetes, a nonprofit advocacy organization. Dr. Santos Cavaiola completed an endocrinology fellowship, chief residency, and residency in internal medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree at Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine.
