AIDS Housing Alliance/SF believes in a world where all people have a safe, decent, and affordable home. Toward this vision, we prevent homelessness for people with HIV/AIDS by protecting the housing we already have, providing resources to secure new housing, and promoting public policy to increase opportunity for all. Our goal is to become the largest service provider of housing, and largest employer, for people with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco. According to the San Francisco Board of Supervisor's Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Housing Plan, there are up to 2, 500 homeless people with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco and 13, 000 with an unmet housing need. We are disproportionately impacted by homelessness. 14% of people with HIV/AIDS are homeless at any given time. The National AIDS Housing Coalition reports that up to 60% of people with HIV/AIDS will experience housing instability at least once during the course of their illness. Those who lose their housing are 5 times as likely to perish and are much higher users of expensive emergency care.

AIDS Housing Alliance is poorly ran and they treat their clientele like livestock. They have absolutely NO compassion and are the rudest group of people I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. I will admit, they did help me find and secure housing but the experience was AWFUL. When you are at the lowest point in your life and homeless it would be nice to be shown a little care and compassion, especially since the founders of AHA created the organization after being homeless themselves. But don't expect that here. The Director, Brian Basinger, is a horrible gossip and likes to get into everyone's personal business and then share it with the next person that walks into their office. Please exhaust every other opportunity you can find before going to AIDS Housing Alliance. Unless of course you like to be treated like cattle.
